- FREEWARE!
- =========
-
- Titanic II was once sold commercially by the Central Licenceware Registry,
- but after this company had ceased trading, Titanic II became unavailable
- through any outlet. Around this time i was pursueing a degree in Computers
- and was forced to sell my Amiga to raise money for a PC, an action i later
- regretted. Deprived of my Amiga i lost track of the Amiga scene for nearly
- three years.
-
- The degree is now finished, and as a reward to myself i bought a new Amiga.
- After catching up on the Amiga scene, i was shocked by the amount of
- software and hardware companys that had abandoned the Amiga, a computer that
- had been so good to them in the past!
-
- I now wish to help the Amiga in any way i can, for this reason Titanic II
- is now released as FREEWARE. Please ignore any copyright messages in the
- program itself.

- WHAT IS TITANIC II?
- ===================
-
- Titanic II is an interactive exploration of one of the greatest maritime
- disasters of all time. The disaster occurred on April 14, 1912, when the
- Royal Mail Ship Titanic, on her maiden voyage, brushed an iceberg and took
- 1,500 souls to their deaths in freezing water. The program not only covers
- that fateful night, but also the reasons she was built, the reaction to the
- disaster and finally the discovery of the wreck.
-
- Titanic II will be of great interest to students studying Maritime history
- or for those simply interested in Titanic. Full instructions for operating
- the program can be found within Titanic II.
-
-
-
- PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
- ====================
-
- Titanic II will work on any Amiga which has at least 1MB of chip memory
- and OS 2.0 or later installed, the program will also make use of an
- external floppy drive if available. Titanic II can be installed to Hard
- Disk, see below.
-
-
-
- INSTALLING TO FLOPPY
- ====================
-
- You will need two floppy disks, format both disks and name them `Titanic1'
- and `Titanic2' respectively. Titanic1 should be made bootable by using
- `install df0:' from a shell or CLI.
-
- Un-archive the contents of the file Titanic1.lha, copy all the files to the
- Titanic1 disk, execluding the source and pics directorys. Copy the pics
- directory to the Titanic2 disk. You should then have a working copy of
- Titanic II on floppy.
-
-
-
- INSTALLING TO HARD DISK
- =======================
-
- Simply unarchive and drag the Titanic II directory anywhere on your Hard
- Disk. If you have the original floppy version you can run the HDInstall
- program on disk 1 or you may do it manually. If the manual method is used
- the following should be noted:
-
- Titanic II finds all its files by reading in the Titanics.prefs from the
- current System disk (be it floppy or Hard Disk), if this file is not
- found Titanic II uses its defaults, consequently it will not know where to
- find its files and the program will abort. Getting around this problem you
- can do the following.
-
- First load the TitanicII.prefs into a text editor such as Ed. Looking at
- the file you will see that the first three lines contain the paths of
- Titanic's three directorys:
-
- Titanic1:Music/
- Titanic2:Pics/
- Titanic1:Data/
-
- So if you had installed Titanic II to a partition called Work and into a
- directory called Test, you should edit the file to read:
-
- Work:Test/Music/
- Work:Test/Pics/
- Work:Test/Data/
-
- Also if you wish to throw all Titanic's files into one directory say for
- instance Test2, you should edit the file to read:
-
- Work:Test2/
- Work:Test2/
- Work:Test2/
-
- Once you have finished editing the file you should save it to your Sys/S
- directory, and when you next run Titanic II it will hopefully find it's
- files from the paths you have given it.
-
- You should also copy the Diskfont.library and Titanic fonts, found on
- Titanic disk 1, to your Libs and Fonts directorys.
-
-
-
- THE FUTURE
- ==========
-
- I still have the original source to Titanic II and intend to transfer the
- program to CD, this will give the freedom to add video, audio and other
- goodies to the program.
-
- The project will be entitled Titanic III (original!). If you are in any way
- interested, and you are a programmer, graphic artist, musician or a person
- who would to help in writing text, scanning pictures, producing video, or
- can help in any other way, please contact me!!!

- OTHER TITLE'S BY THE SAME AUTHOR
- ================================
-
- TUTANKHAMUN (also now released as Freeware!)
- -----------
-
- Tutankhamun is very much in the same format as Titanic, it too uses text,
- diagrams and pictures to convey its information. To get a better idea of
- what Tutankhamun is all about the following text is from Tutankhamun's
- introduction.
-
- The tomb of Tutankhamun, with its breathtaking treasures has exerted a
- unique hold on the popular imagination ever since its discovery in 1922. It
- remains the greatest tomb find ever made. The story of the boy king, buried
- in splendour at the height of Egyptian civilization, the determined quest
- for his tomb by Howard Carter and Lord Carnarvon, the unforeseen riches
- eventually revealed, these are the ingredients unparalleled in the history
- of archaeology.
-
- Yet for all the publicity at the time of discovery and since, given added
- spice by the linking of Carnarvon's early death with the legend of the
- pharaoh's curse, it remains a story but partly told. Now, with the help of
- the computer, the entire Tutankhamun story can be finally told. From the
- search to discovery, from excavation to the exhibations of the 60s and 70s,
- here is all the intriguing detail."
